Our New Wheels Have Arrived!

The sun was shining on The Fleet Care Home in Dartmouth as residents, families, and staff gathered to welcome a very special new arrival a beautiful, brand-new minibus that will transform day trips and outings for those who call The Fleet their home. It was a moment we've all been dreaming about, and thanks to the kindness and generosity of the Dartmouth League of Friends, that dream has now become a reality. The new minibus, which can comfortably accommodate up to three wheelchair users or up to eleven seated passengers, promises to open up a world of new experiences for our ladies and gents.
Home Manager Marc Chudley has been working tirelessly behind the scenes to make this day happen. Speaking at the event, Marc shared his excitement and gratitude, highlighting the hard work, community spirit and determination that brought everything together, saying that it felt a bit unreal that the bus had finally arrived.

The idea began to take shape through regular visits to St Clement's Church, led by our dedicated Activity Coordinator, Elaine. It was during these visits that strong friendships were formed, leading to conversations with Carol Lingard, trustee of Dartmouth League of Friends for Dartmouth & District Healthcare. Carol and her team, who have raised funds over many years to support local healthcare, chose The Fleet Care Home as the deserving recipient of this incredible gift. Carol joined residents, families and staff as we unveiled the minibus, with balloons and bright smiles adding to the festive atmosphere. Everyone was eager to step aboard, have a look around, and start planning the outings ahead. From seaside visits to afternoon teas and everything in between, the possibilities are endless.

The minibus is not only practical but will also help us showcase the compassionate, personalised care we offer here at The Fleet, as we plan to add our own branding and contact details in the near future. More than anything though, it represents freedom, community, and the joy of shared experiences—something that means the world to our residents and their loved ones. As the excitement continues, we’re asking for your help in naming our new minibus. We’d also love to hear your suggestions for where we should go on our very first adventure. This generous donation will have a lasting impact on the wellbeing and happiness of our residents, and for that we cannot thank Carol and the Dartmouth League of Friends enough.
