COVID-19

The health of our residents, their families, and our staff is extremely important to us at The Fleet Care Home and it is our ongoing commitment to ensure that we all remain as safe as possible from the risks of COVID-19. As a home, we continue to follow the guidance and legislation issued by the Government and key sector bodies and we are dedicated to keeping our residents, their families, and our staff well-informed as necessary.

Despite the difficulties we’ve come across as a result of COVID-19, we have worked hard to implement robust policies and procedures that provide a level of reassurance for all residents, visitors, and members of our community.

Our COVID-19 Approach

Care homes in England can make risk-based decisions as to whether face masks are required to be worn. Following a risk assessment, our care home has made the decision to remove the universal wearing of masks. It is a personal choice whether visitors still wish to wear a mask and people receiving care can ask staff to wear face masks; our staff will continue to work in whichever way makes our residents most comfortable.

We continue to no longer have restrictions as to the number of visits per resident though we ask that you make arrangements in advance of your visit to ensure safe visiting practices can be maintained.

At any time, the decision to not wear face masks can be changed as determined by the Home Manager, company, local or national healthcare agencies. COVID-19 regulations and guidance from the Government, National, and Local Healthcare Agencies may also change. For further information, please click here or contact the Home Manager directly.

Keeping You Safe

At The Fleet Care Home, we make sure that we have an ample supply of PPE and hand hygiene products at all times and that all members of staff follow the infection prevention and control measures we have put in place.

We also recognise how important it is to keep up to date and comply with official advice and guidance provided by the Government, Department of Health, and the local NHS Trust. We continue to recommend to our residents and team members that they remain up to date with all available vaccinations and boosters for both COVID-19 and flu and in circumstances where cases do occur, we have an effective system for recording cases and taking appropriate steps to keep cases as contained as possible.

Staying Connected with Loved Ones

In light of the consequences that COVID-19 has had and is still having, we are more committed than ever to ensuring that our residents remain in contact with their family members and other community members. We actively encourage our residents in being able to leave our care home for day trips and overnight stays. In order to facilitate this, residents are required to complete an individual risk assessment which includes the use of respiratory screening questions on their return. Residents who temporarily leave the home are not required to test or isolate but to ensure everyone’s safety we do encourage residents to be vaccinated for day trips and overnight stays.

Throughout periods where interaction may be difficult, such as in an outbreak, we offer a variety of online devices to support our residents in video calling their friends and family and staying connected. We understand the importance that human connection and participation in activities has on our resident’s overall wellbeing, which is why do all that we can to support residents in continuing with their hobbies, pursuing new interests, and meeting new people.

COVID-19 FAQs

Whilst being vaccinated is no longer mandatory we strongly recommend that all residents, their visitors, and team members at The Fleet Care Home are fully COVID-19 vaccinated, including future boosters, unless medically exempt. To reduce the risk of infection to others we will continue to encourage our team members to have all their vaccinations.

When transferring from the community or another care home a person does not need to isolate if the circumstances at the care home / interim care facility from which the person has transferred are known.

If the resident is symptomatic or has been in close contact with someone who has COVID-19, then they should isolate and perform two LFT tests on day (0), and again on day (2). Isolation can end following two negative tests.

If the resident tests positive in the home, they must be isolated for 5 days. The resident can then return to their normal activities if they feel well and do not have a high temperature (without the use of medication paracetamol).

Residents who test positive should avoid contact with other people who are eligible for COVID-19 treatments for 10 days after a positive test. Residents unable to take the test should isolate for 5 days.

During an outbreak, there may be risk assessments carried out to include but not limited to the control of visiting arrangements, admissions to the home, and the use of communal areas for a period of time. We work closely with local and national agencies in accordance with local agreements and guidance. For more information please contact our Home Manager directly.
